A MAN who collapsed in a shed where drink is sold, known as the Bog Hotel, died from a lethal cocktail of drugs and alcohol, an inquest in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, heard yesterday.

A coroner and a jury were also told that Thomas Sheridan (20) may have died in a van in which he was carried in a near unconscious state for about 3½ hours after collapsing before being brought back to his home in Donegal town.

Dr Ewa Tomzczyk, who pronounced the young man dead 45 minutes after he was carried into the house, said she believed he had died earlier, maybe in the van during the journey.

The jury was told that toxicology tests showed the presence of more than double the drink-drive limit of alcohol in the dead man’s system.

Coroner Dr Diarmuid Hegarty said tests also showed an ecstasy level of about 1½ times the recognised lethal dose. There was also methadone in the system above the risk level.

The inquest heard how he collapsed at about 10am on a Sunday in the bar in a shed known as the “Bog Hotel” near Frosses, Co Donegal. The inquest heard he had consumed a variety of drinks in pubs and houses the previous night.
