The teenager shot once in the leg in the incident was meanwhile being treated for his injuries at St James's Hospital.

Five men armed with a sawn off, shotgun and a rifle entered the young man's home in Donomore Crescent shortly after 2 a.m. yesterday, breaking up the contents off the house.

They dragged the man into the sitting room before firing one shots into his leg and escaping towards Killinarden Park.

The victim's girlfriend was also in the house at the time of the incident, but she was unharmed.

One man, aged in his 40s, was arrested and held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

An 18 year old Dublin man was slashed with a handicraft knife in a mugging incident early yesterday. The man was returning home at about 3.30 a.m. when two youths stopped him at Priorswood Road, Coolock, and demanded money. When he refused, one of the youths slashed him in the side with the knife and jabbed him in the arm with a syringe. Nothing was stolen.
