An internal Garda inquiry has begun into allegations by a probation garda that a colleague with whom he was on duty gave a lift to a woman in a Garda car and then went for a walk with her on Dollymount Strand, Dublin.
The alleged indiscretion took place several weeks ago.
The woman in question, who is from the UK, has been interviewed by gardaí and has denied the version of accounts put forward by the probation garda.
She has confirmed that she encountered gardaí on the day in question but has denied that she took a lift in their vehicle or that she went for a walk with one of them. The matter is being investigated by a Chief Superintendent.
