Five killed in weekend road crashes
A passenger caught up in a three-car collision which claimed two lives in east Galway at the weekend gave birth to a baby shortly after being taken to hospital
Two men - both drivers of cars travelling in opposite directions - died in the collision, which occurred around 6pm on Saturday at Killure Cross on the Ballinasloe-Ahascragh road.
Three other people died in separate crashes over the weekend, in Donegal, Tipperary and Co Antrim.
In the crash in Co Galway in which the two people died, three people were injured, including a pregnant woman, who gave birth to a child shortly after being rushed by ambulance to Portiuncula Hospital.
The two men were named yesterday as Proinsias Nolan (17), a Leaving Certificate student from Lehanagh, Castleblakeney, and Thomas O'Beirne (57), a mechanic, from Lowville, Ahascragh.
A motorcyclist was killed instantly when in collision with a car outside St Agatha's Church near Donegal town yesterday. Gardaí said the victim was 33 and from Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, the teenager who died in a road crash in Nenagh, Co Tipperary early yesterday morning was named as Kieran McLoughlin (18) of St Conlan's Road, Nenagh.
In the North, a motorcyclist was killed on Saturday in Co Antrim while taking part in a charity fundraiser. Everett Kerr (45), from Ahoghill, was killed when his motorbike collided with a car in Bushmills.
PSNI investigates two sex assaults
The PSNI is investigating two separate sexual attacks on women in east Belfast over the weekend.
In the first attack, a woman was raped in an alleyway off Donard Street near the Ravenhill Road at around 10pm on Friday.
Another woman was sexually assaulted at around 2.30am on Saturday on waste ground near Dee Street on the Newtownards Road.
Two shot in legs in North attacks
Two men have been shot in suspected paramilitary-style shootings in the North over the weekend.
A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg in north Belfast late on Saturday night.
Police said he was walking in Parkemount Terrace area when he was attacked and shot once in the left leg.
On Friday another man was shot in the leg in Coleraine, Co Derry in what was described as a "paramilitary kneecapping".
Tribute to slain police officers
A ceremony honouring police officers from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland killed in the line of duty took place in Belfast yesterday.
National Police Memorial Day, which was held at the city's Waterfront Hall, paid tribute to around 4,000 police officers killed while on duty since 1792, including 302 members of RUC/PSNI and RUC reserve.
