A 23-year-old man died after a two-car crash in Limerick yesterday. Joseph Hanley, Kilteely, Co Limerick, died at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital after the car he was driving was involved in a collision with another vehicle on a straight stretch of road at Ballyvouden, Kilteely, Pallasgreen, at around 9.45pm on Tuesday.
The driver of the other car, whom it's understood was a close friend of the deceased, was also taken to hospital but was discharged a short time later. Gardaí are still trying to ascertain how the crash occurred.
Mayo boy injured by tractor dies
A 17-year-old Co Mayo boy seriously injured last week while collecting fuel for a bonfire to celebrate Midsummer's Night has died at Beaumont hospital.
Christopher Hughes, Carramore, Shrule, was with friends on a tractor collecting timber when he fell and became trapped between the wheels and the vehicle's transport box. He was taken to University College Hospital, Galway, before being transferred to Beaumont where he died late on Tuesday night.
Bel Canto Chorus continue Irish tour
As part of their 75th anniversary celebration tour, the internationally renowned Bel Canto Chorus from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, continue their Irish tour with a special concert in Killarney, Co Kerry, next Sunday in aid of the restoration of the local cathedral.
Entrance to Sunday's concert at 8pm is free, but donations can be made to help aid restoration of Killarney Cathedral.
Bedside vigil for injured baby
The family of a baby boy injured in a crash on the main Cork to Killarney road were continuing to maintain a bedside vigil yesterday. The 10-month-old was among six people, including four children, who were hospitalised after a two-car crash at Lissarda on Tuesday.
Search for missing tourist resumes
The search for a missing German tourist will resume off the Co Clare coast this morning. Gardaí in Ennistymon said the woman, believed to be in her 40s, has been missing from her accommodation since last Friday.
