Dublin man admits IRA membership
A Dublin man pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court yesterday to IRA membership.
Cillian Kelly (24), of Riverwoood Grove, Carpenterstown, Dublin, was remanded on continuing bail of €20,000 for sentencing.
Armed raider gets suspended term
An armed robber who was caught selling ecstasy so that he could buy a ticket for a dance rave at The Point has been given a five-year suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Michael Mahon (25), of Coultry Road, Ballymun, Dublin, pleaded guilty to armed robbery on August 7th, 2002, outside the Axa Insurance office in Finglas and on September 27th, 2002, outside Tesco in Drumcondra.
He also admitted having ecstasy valued at about €180 for sale on October 19th, 2002, outside The Point, North Wall.
Two charged with attack on tourist
Two teenagers appeared in court yesterday charged with assaulting a Norwegian tourist in Dublin.
Christopher Burgess (18), Templeview Avenue, Clare Hall, and Leonard Finnegan, (18) Harolds Cross, both Dublin, were charged with assault causing harm to Andreas Nagelsett (34) at Great Strand Street on Sunday last.
Mr Nagelsett was here on a four-day break with seven companions when he was attacked. He was taken to the Mater hospital where he is in a critical condition.
Judge Hugh O'Donnell remanded the two in custody to appear in Cloverhill District Court on March 13th.
Arrest warrant for teen mugger
A warrant was yesterday issued for the arrest of a 16-year-old youth who mugged an elderly woman.
The youth had pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court to robbing a handbag from the woman, who is in her 70s, at Convent Road, Clondalkin, on January 16th, 2005.
Judge Gerard Haughton issued a bench warrant for the youth's arrest after he failed to appear at his sentence hearing yesterday. The youth's mother has been ordered to pay €1,000 to the victim.
Boy was dangled from balcony
An aspiring actor has had his sentence for dangling a young boy over the balcony of a flats complex adjourned again to allow updating of his probation report.
Mark Pidgeon, (17), of Bluebell Road, Bluebell, pleaded guilty last July at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to reckless endangerment causing a risk of serious injury or death to the then 14-year-old boy on July 18th, 2004.
Pidgeon was put into custody in November 2006 by Judge Frank O'Donnell who was told then that he attacked the victim while on bail awaiting sentence, had failed to attend medical appointments and was smoking cannabis regularly.
Judge O'Donnell, who released him from custody in January, yesterday adjourned the matter to a later date.
Robber fails to appear in court
A bench warrant has been issued for a 20-year-old woman who failed to appear for sentencing for robberies in south Dublin.
Debbie O'Connell, of Cromlech Fields, Ballybrack, was due for sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for the robberies in Foxrock, Dún Laoghaire and at Ballybrack shopping centre.
Judge Frank O'Donnell had remanded her on continuing bail when he adjourned her sentencing from its original date in January to allow him to consider psychiatric and probation reports.
Marie Torrens , defending O'Connell, said her client was not answering her mobile phone and she did not oppose the application for a warrant.
