A man in his 50s was killed in a two-car collision yesterday, bringing the total number of deaths on Irish roads to 87 this year.
The fatal collision, in which two others were injured, occurred shortly after 8am at Riverstown, Dundalk, Co Louth. The deceased man was a front-seat passenger in one of the vehicles.
The male driver of the car and the female driver of the other car were both taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
Their condition was described as stable last night.
Irish man dies in Tenerife
An Irish man died in Tenerife yesterday following a fall while out hill walking.
Last night, the Department of Foreign Affairs said it was aware of an Irish fatality abroad and that the family of the deceased would be entitled to consular assistance.
Children's hospital restricts visits
Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin, Dublin, last night said it was restricting visiting to parents and guardians until further notice because it had experienced a sudden increase in cases of children presenting with diarrhoea and vomiting.
The hospital said that in addition it may have to defer some non-urgent (elective) admissions.
SF picks Ó Caoláin to contest election
Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, the Sinn Féin leader in the Dáil, has been selected as the party candidate for the Cavan/Monaghan constituency.
He was selected at a convention in Cootehill, Co Cavan, yesterday.
Cork man charged over drugs seizure
A 26-year-old unemployed father of one was last night released on bail after he was charged in connection with a €70,000 drugs seizure in Cork earlier this week.
Patrick O'Donovan, Grange Cottages, Grange, Cork, was charged with possession and possession for sale or supply of cocaine at Tramore Road, Cork, on March 23rd.
