Sister charged with canal body murder

A sister of a woman charged with the murder of a man whose dismembered body was found in the Royal Canal in Dublin was also charged with the same murder yesterday.

Charlotte Mulhall (22), Kilclare Gardens, Tallaght, was charged with murdering Sheilila Salim (40), otherwise known as Fareh Swaleh Noor, at a flat in Richmond Cottages, Ballybough, Dublin, on or around March 20th last.

In Dublin District Court yesterday Det Sgt William Hickey said he arrested Ms Mulhall on Monday at her home. The court also heard there was a warrant out for her arrest in relation to a number of minor charges for which she had allegedly failed to turn up.

Judge Conal Gibbons remanded Charlotte Mulhall in custody for a week.

Her sister Linda Mulhall (30), of the same address, was charged last month with the murder of Mr Salim and is currently on bail awaiting trial.

Former EBS agent sent for trial

A former building society representative charged with laundering more than €1.1 million was sent for trial yesterday.

Former EBS Marino manager/tied agent, Shane Sutton (42), Howth Road, Clontarf, Dublin, is charged with money-laundering and theft by knowingly handling cheques believing they directly or indirectly represented another person's criminal activity between December 2000 and March 2003 and lodging it to an account in his own name.

He was first charged last week and granted independent bail of €50,000. Dublin District Court heard yesterday he had taken up the bail after €50,000 in cash had been lodged with the authorities.

Judge Miriam Malone sent him for trial to the Circuit Court and extended the same cash bail to cover him pending his appearance in that court. She also ordered that he continue to observe conditions of his bail that he surrender his passport and reside at the family home.

Unlawful killing case adjourned

The case of a 17-year-old youth charged with the killing of an English man whose body was found in west Dublin last month has been adjourned for a week.

The Tallaght youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with the unlawful killing of James Burke, a 21-year-old Londoner, on September 23rd at Quarryville in west Dublin.

The Dublin Children's Court heard yesterday that more time would be needed to prepare the book of evidence. The youth was remanded in custody to St Patrick's Institution, with consent to High Court bail, until next Tuesday.

Jockey may face further charges

Former Irish champion jockey Paul Carberry may face further charges arising out of a public order incident on board a recent Aer Lingus flight from Malaga to Dublin, a court heard yesterday, writes John Downes.

Garda Noel Donnelly told Judge Patrick Brady at Swords District Court that a further complaint in relation to the issue had been received. The judge adjourned the case to November 22nd.

Mr Carberry (31), from Tara, Co Meath, was charged with behaviour of a threatening, abusive and insulting nature under the Air Navigation and Transport Act.
