A Co Offaly man who has denied as "completely untrue" claims he tried to hire a contract killer has had an order restraining him from doing so continued by the High Court.
It is alleged that Éamon Touhey wrongly believes that a young Co Offaly man had a role in his sons's death some years ago. A restraining order against Mr Touhey was granted last May and Mr Justice Frank Clarke yesterday continued that order until the trial of proceedings.
Alan Toal, for Joseph Gallagher snr (61) and his son Joseph (24), of Pullough, Tullamore, Co Offaly, had sought the continuing order against Mr Touhey, of Derrycooley, Rahan, Tullamore. The injunction restrains Mr Touhey from hiring someone to kill Joseph Gallagher jnr.
Probation for boy involved in attack
A troubled 15-year-old boy who took part in a violent gang-mugging of a French student has been released on supervisory probation for six months by Judge Bryan Smyth at the Dublin Children's Court.
The boy earlier pleaded guilty to the robbery of the student in Dublin city centre on May 27th, 2005.
Sentence later in 'Love Ulster' case
A Westmeath man has had his sentence for his role in last year's "Love Ulster" parade riot in Dublin adjourned to November to allow for a psychiatric report to be prepared.
John Saunders (40), Galway Road, Kinnegad, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to using or threatening to use violent behaviour on February 22nd, 2006.
Two accused of attempted murder
The jury has been sworn in for the trial of two men accused of attempting to shoot several people. Michael Reilly (37) and Paul Gavin (33), both of Glin Road Height, Belfast, deny attempting to murder four people at Coolock, Dublin, in February 2005.
