Intel president and chief executive Mr Craig Barrett vowed to continue building Intel's business by maintaining an aggressive acquisition strategy, the Wall Street Journalreported, citing an advance copy of a speech he will deliver tonight in Las Vegas.

"We have been aggressive last year and so far this year and you should extrapolate (our aggressiveness) going forward," the text said.

The paper also noted that since the beginning of the year, Intel has spent nearly $2 billion on eight communications companies, most recently acquiring three fiber-optic firms for more than $500 million.
