LONDON - THE British Ministry of Defence is to launch an investigation following the discovery that an RAF filing cabinet packed with secret documents about the IRA was sold at auction.

Papers detailing how to make bombs, grenades, booby traps and anti tank missiles were found by a businessman who bought the cabinet at an auction of surplus Ministry of Defence furniture in Gloucestershire.

One envelope marked "restricted" contained nine colour diagrams and slides of weapons used by the IRA, together with a letter saying:

"Note the classification. They are not for general display because they provide excellent blueprints for weapons manufacture." A businessman who bought the cabinet handed the papers over to the Sun newspaper.
