Attempts to debate claims that a joint British army/ Northern Ireland Police Service patrol crossed the Border into Co Louth were ruled out of order in the Dáil yesterday.

Sinn Féin TD for Louth, Mr Arthur Morgan, had called for the debate on an "invasion" of Omeath, Co Louth, on Wednesday night by the joint patrol.

The deputy asked for the reason for these patrols on "any side of Britain's border in Ireland at this stage of the peace process", and what action the Minister for Foreign Affairs was going to take. He demanded that the Government "set severe sanctions in place against the British government, which has continued to ignore the international agreement entered into with the Irish Government".
