An investigation has been launched into the cause of a fire in a luxurious Kilkenny city hotel.
The blaze, which broke out in Hotel Kilkenny yesterday evening, was finally extinguished by firefighters shortly before midnight.
The fire is said to have been contained to a small area inside the four-star hotel, which recently reopened following a €16 million redevelopment programme.
About 70 of guests were believed to have been evacuated from the premises.

The site also boasts a new lobby, bar, restaurant, and state-of-the-art wedding and conference venues. In addition to its 102 bedrooms, 36 spacious deluxe bedrooms were due to open next week. It is not yet known how the fire started.
