The Irish Postmasters' Union (IPU) has agreed to a High Court order restraining it from supporting any action by members which would result in the closure of post offices on the Saturdays of bank holiday weekends.
Mr Justice Kelly was also told yesterday that 20 of 47 named members of the IPU had given undertakings not to close their post offices.
Given this, An Post had agreed that proceedings against the remaining 27 should be adjourned, with liberty to re-enter.
On May 17th, An Post secured a court order restraining the postmasters/postmistresses from closing their post offices on the Saturday of the June Bank Holiday. They, out of a total of 1,400, had closed their offices on the Saturday of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
On June 28th, the court was told that An Post had put forward proposals to resolve the dispute. The court also heard that the union's solicitors were seeking to get the views of the postmasters who had closed.
Yesterday, Mr Tom Mallon, for An Post, told Mr Justice Kelly that the IPU had agreed to the court making a perpetual injunction against it.
