Biggest liner may be built in DerryDerry has been earmarked as a possible location for the construction of the world's biggest boat, writes George Jackson. The $6 billion Freedom project is the brainchild of Texan billionaire, Mr Norman Nixon.
Mr Nixon, an engineer, was in Derry yesterday and accompanied by SDLP leader, Mr John Hume, visited the former US naval base at Lisahally, on the River Foyle, which he said would be an ideal location to build his floating city. The one-mile long Freedom superliner would be home to 50,000 residents and 15,000 employees. It would have numerous on-board restaurants, hotels, factories, banks and a hospital. The residents would live in 17,000 apartments costing between £80,000 and £4 million.
