The death toll from Iraq's deadliest bomb attack in more than a year rose to 73, police said today, a day after a suicide bomber detonated a truck packed with explosives near the northern city of Kirkuk.
The victims had been leaving a mosque. Kirkuk deputy police captain Major-General Turhan Abdul Rahman said the toll had risen from 67, and that the blast flattened 45 homes.
Casualties are expected to rise as more people are pulled from the rubble.
Sabah al Dawoudi, Kirkuk's health director, said 200 people were caught in the explosion and some were in a critical condition.
