HOCKEY / Ireland 2 Belarus 1:Ireland came from a goal down to open their EuroHockey Nations Trophy campaign with a 2-1 win over Belarus at the North Wales Stadium this morning. After a bright start Belarus took the lead in the 18th minute thanks to Ivan Kisialevich's drag flick.
Ireland were spurred into action and replacement Geoff McCabe won a short corner from which John Jermyn was denied by the Belarussian goalkeeper.
Jermyn wasn’t to be denied and soon brought Ireland level when he fired his drag right home.
Three minutes later, Ireland were aheadafter some good work by Alan Sothern secured a third penalty corner, from which he slotted home.
Ireland had chances to put the game beyond doubt but Eugene Magee, Stephen Butler, Tim Cockram and Mitch Darling were denied.
Ireland face Italy tomorrow at 3.30om.
