The Irish Timeswebsite, ireland.com, is seeking to reduce its workforce by 23 to address financial difficulties in the company.

Ms Mangan said a review of the company had shown a need to achieve redundancies as well as significant savings in non-payroll costs.

"However, the focus of the revised plan for ireland.comis to ensure the success of the company and maintain as many jobs as possible as we go forward," she said.

A voluntary redundancy package, expected to be in line with that to be offered to workers in the print edition, will be offered to staff early in the new year. The cost-cutting measures are expected to be implemented in the first quarter of 2002.
