The figures, based on Government statistics, compare the number of burglaries with the overall population in different states to come up with a percentile measurement for break ins.

Scotland and Holland have the highest level of burglaries, at 3.2 per cent of the population, while France has the lowest with 0.8 per cent. The Republic is second lowest, with 0.9 per cent, and Northern Ireland third lowest, with 1 per cent. England and Wales has 2.5 per cent.
