Republic of Ireland defender Gary Breen today completed a move to London club West Ham United.

Republic of Ireland defender Gary Breen today completed a move to London club West Ham United.

Breen, who starred for Ireland at the World Cup finals last month, left Coventry at the end of last season after failing to agree a new contract with the club.

"I made a decision to take my time over this, as it was a big decision for me. I had a month or so to reflect on all the different offers after the World Cup," Breen (28) told West Ham's official website.

Breen added: "I feel I have made the right decision, and I have worked with Glenn, who played in my position, before . . . I expect to play the best football of my career and feel that I am coming into my prime now; my best football is ahead of me".
