Cricket:Ireland maintained their 100 per cent record with a five wicket victory over Scotland in today's World Cricket League Division 1 match at the Sportpark Westvliet in Voorburg, The Netherlands.
Phil Simmons’ side won the toss and put Scotland in to bat. They were set a target of 117 from 47.2 overs and replied with 120-5 off 34.2 overs to win with plenty to spare.
Neil McCallum just missed out on a half century but his 49 was the backbone of the Scottish innings, while Dougie Lockhart weighed-in with 19.
Trent Johnston (2-18) and Nigel Jones (2-19) each took two wickets, while Kevin O'Brien, Paul Mooney and Alex Cusack also took wickets.
Despite struggling in the opening exchanges (12-2), O’Brien (41) and John Mooney (20) formed a 55 partnership to ensure the Irish win, while Paul Stirling also hit 37.
Matthew Parker (2-23), Gordon Drummond (2-42) and Richard Berrington took the wickets for Scotland.
The win moves the defending champions top of the standings after previous wins over Kenya and Afghanistan. Ireland still have to play Canada on Wednesday, The Netherlands on Friday before Saturday’s final play-off match.
