Ireland have slumped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against USA today in the Women's Hockey World Cup in Perth, Australia.

It is Ireland's second loss of the campaign having been beaten 3-1 by England yesterday in their opening game.

USA took an early lead after just 15 minutes through Kate Barber before Pegasus' Arelene Boyles restored parity after a penalty corner in the 24th minute.

Barber however struck again for the USA in the 42nd minute, subjecting Ireland to their second successive defeat of the competition.
