The bodies of the newlywed couple from Northern Ireland who drowned while on honeymoon in South Africa have been brought home.

The joint funeral of John and Lynette Rodgers is due to take place on Monday at First Holywood Presbyterian Church in Holywood, Co Down, where they got married just two weeks ago.

Following their wedding John (28), an office worker, and Lynette (26), a physiotherapist, headed to South Africa for a honeymoon stay at the Robberg Beach Lodge.

They died on after going for a swim Plettenberg Bay on October 24 and getting caught in a rip tide.

Mr Rodgers body was discovered in shallow surf on Robberg beach and Mrs Rodgers body was found approximately 200 metres from his.

The families said they have been left “thoroughly devastated” by their loss.
