The body of a pensioner missing from his Finglas home since last summer has been recovered by police in Blackpool.
Earlier on Thursday, it was confirmed on a social media page set up to help find 81-year-old Thomas Kennedy that he had been found dead in the Lancashire city.
“It’s with great sadness that we would like to inform you that the body of Thomas Kennedy has been recovered,” it read.
“Tommy’s family would like to extend their thanks to people from all over the country who have been involved in the effort to bring him home.
“Our condolences to family and friends of Thomas.”
Gardaí were informed of the discovery by members of Interpol today, and the family are waiting for the coroner in the UK to release his body.
Mr Kennedy was last seen putting out his bins in the Dublin suburb on July 29th, 2014.
He was reported missing shortly afterwards, at which point gardaí, family and local residents mounted sweeping searches in the area to find him.
