The fine spell of weather we have been enjoying looks set to continue into the Easter bank holiday weekend, but Easter Weekend itself is set to be a mixed bag.

Forecasters say the balmy temperatures will continue up until Easter Sunday when heavy rain may put an end to the current spell of dry warm weather.

Met Éireann Forecaster John Eagleton said temperatures could reach up to 17 degrees today but that winds would make it feel cooler in Dublin.

Thursday will be a fresh, breezy day with sunny spells but there remains the chance of showers. “The rain is is likely to be over parts of Connacht and Ulster but it should remain dry in Munster and Leinster. Temperatures will remain below the 15 degree mark,” said Mr Eagleton.

A dry, fine day with sunny spells is forecast for Good Friday as high pressure begins to build again.

Temperatures of between 11-15 degrees are forecast but will drop at night time which may lead to grass frost in some places. “Good Friday is likely to stay warm and sunny and that good weather should continue into Easter Saturday.”

High pressure has influenced the weather since the start of the week but is set to become lower towards the end of the long weekend.

Mr Eagleton said the high and low pressure systems coming into contact may result in heavy rainfall on the evening of Easter Sunday which may continue into Easter Monday.
