A number of children have been taken to hospital after a bus carrying an U14s rugby team crashed in Co Donegal.

The crash happened at 2.50pm on the R232 Laghey to Pettigo road. It is understood the bus, carrying 26 children and a number of coaches belonging to Carrickfergus rugby club’s U14 team, overturned.

Gardaí said three children were taken to hospital and said their injuries are are “not life threatening.”

The injured were taken for treatment at Sligo Regional Hospital and Letterkenny General Hospital.

No other vehicle was involved in the incident. The R232 has been closed for a technical examination but is expected to reopen to traffic at 8pm.
