A man has died after being fatally injured in a workplace accident in Cork.

The man in his 50s, died on Saturday at Cork University Hospital.

He sustained head injuries when a cherry picker he was working on toppled over.

He had been working at the Bus Éireann Capwell garage in Cork city on Monday afternoon when the accident happened.

It is understood he was from Inniscarra, outside Cork city and was a contractor who was working on his own at the garage.

In a statement, Bus Éireann extended its “deepest sympathies and condolences” to the family and friends of the contractor.

Gardaí, the Health and Safety Authority, and Bus Éireann are investigating the incident.
