Dart services disrupted by naked man on railway track

Homeless man says he lost his clothes while sunbathing naked

Dart train services were seriously delayed tonight by a naked man on the track outside Seapoint station in south Dublin.

The 53-year-old man refused to get off the track for more than 20 minutes. The train was stopped between stations before eventually moving to Seapoint station when he moved.

The train was halted at the station because of fears the man was going to go onto the track again. He walked along the platform in front of the train until he was offered a high visibility orange jacket to cover himself.

An off-duty female garda, who was travelling on the train, and the train driver spoke to the man.

The man, who is homeles and uses in a hostel in south Dublin, told The Irish Times he had been sunbathing naked. He said he climbed a hill near the station when he fell down the track. “I lost my clothes,” he said.

The incident began shortly after 7pm, when as one passenger said, “the train came to a very dangerous abrupt halt”.

She said the female garda and the train driver approached the man, who then tried to get to get back on the train track. “He wants to go to Dún Laoghaire along the track,” the passenger said.

Irish Rail said services have now resumed but warned of knock-on delays.
