A pensioner lost her life and her husband was seriously injured in a collision between a car and a truck in Co Cork today.

The incident happened at the Crookstown exit on the N22 Cork Macroom Road at about 1.30pm. The road was closed and diversions were put in place.

Units of the Cork County Fire Service from Macroom and Ballincollig responded. Four units of the HSE Ambulance service also attended the scene.

The woman, who is understood to have been in her 70s, died at the scene.

The injured man was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

An examination of the road was due to be carried out yesterday by forensic crash investigators.

This morning, a woman in her 80s died after being hit by a truck in Ranelagh, Dublin.

The incident happened at about 10am at the junction of Ranelagh Road and Chelmsford Close.

The woman, a pedestrian, was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, where a postmortem was due to be carried out.

Forensic collision investigators attended the scene.
