Four motorcyclists among six deaths on roads over weekend

Four-year-old Kathleen Delaney from Doneraile, Co Cork died after incident on N20

Gardai and the PSNI are investigating the deaths of four motorcyclists on the roads at the weekend, with two other people also killed in collisions involving vehicles in the Republic. One of the fatalities in the vehicle collisions was a girl aged 4 years.

The child has been named as Kathleen Delaney from Doneraile, Co Cork. She was travelling with her parents and two-year-old sister when the fatal collision occurred on the N20 Cork to Mallow Road shortly after 4pm on Saturday.

The Ford Transit van in which the Delaneys were travelling went out of control and turned on its side at Knocnabehy near the turn for Grenagh.

Kathleen was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where she later died from her injuries. The three other members of her family were taken to the same hospital for treatment. However, neither the dead girl’s parents nor her sister was seriously injured. Diversions were put in place to facilitate an examination of the scene by Garda investigators.
