Gardaí in Killaloe, Co Clare, are appealing for witnesses after a man died when the car in which he was travelling left the road and struck a ditch.
At about 2.45pm gardaí were called to the scene of the single-car collision on the R352 near the village of Mountshannon. The driver, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. His body has since been removed to University Hospital Limerick for postmortem.
A passenger in the car, also a man in his 60s, was also taken to the hospital by ambulance; his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
Garda forensic collision investigators are due on the scene and the local Coroner has been notified. Local traffic diversions are in place around the crash site and anyone with information is asked to contact Ennis Garda station on 065-6848100 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666111.
