Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a bus in Co Cork on Monday night which claimed the life of a 75 year old man.
The collision happened on the main Cork to Kinsale Road at Ballinacourty between Belgooly and Riverstick at 9.55pm on Monday night and involved a Bus Eireann bus and a car driven by a pensioner.
It’s understood that the man, who was driving a Suzuki Swift, was heading towards Riverstic and the Bus Eireann bus with a number of passengers on board was heading towards Kinsale.
The man, who is from the local area, was fatally injured in the collision. The emergency services were alerted and attended to him but he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The man’s body was removed to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem examination which is due to take place this morning to establish the exact cause of death in the accident.
No one on the bus was injured but the road was closed and diversions put in place to allow forensic investigators carry out an examination of the scene.
Gardaí have not named the man as not all next of kin have been notified, but they have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Kinsale Garda Station on 021-4779250.
