Gardaí fear Dublin shooting may be linked to feud

Incident in Coolock follows series of assaults in same area over last week

Gardaí are investigating whether a shooting in Dublin last night may be linked to one of a number of other assaults in the same area over the last week.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg at approximately 9.20pm at Moatview Avenue in Coolock.

He was brought to Beaumont Hospital where he received treatment for his injury which was not thought to be life threatening.

A Garda source said it was now feared a “tit for tat” scenario has developed in the area following a number of incidents in recent days, including another shooting.

However, whether or not there are any links will only be established today as the investigation proceeds and the latest victim is interviewed.

A source said that the shooting was reported to gardai after screaming was heard near a patch of wasteland in the area.

The man walked into an ambulance that arrived at the scene and is thought to be involved in crime at a low level.

The scene was sealed off for forensic examination last night.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coolock Garda station at (01) 666 4200 or any other Garda station.
