Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after a female cyclist was killed in a collision with an articulated truck yesterday.

The incident happened outside the Hunt Museum at the junction of Rutland Street, Fr Matthew Bridge and Charlottes Quay in Limerick at about 7.30am.

Gardaí closed the road to traffic for several hours while a Garda collision investigator carried out a technical examination of the scene.

The woman, who was in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to University Hospital Limerick for a postmortem.

The driver of the truck was not seriously injured, but he was treated by attending paramedics for shock.

Gardaí at Henry Street are investigatingand witnesses can contact the station on 061-212400.

A motorcyclist in his 40s was killed yesterday afternoon when he collided with an SUV in Co Monaghan.

The crash took place on the N2 at Broomfield, Castleblaney, Co Monaghan at 1.30pm.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at scene and his body was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth. The road was closed for a forensic examination.

There were no other injuries reported.
