Injunction over water meters lifted from nine Dublin residents

Residents deny any allegation of violence or intimidation against workers

An injunction restraining nine Dublin residents from interfering with and intimidating workers installing water meters has been lifted by the High Court.

The temporary injunction, granted last Friday, was removed yesterday after the nine gave an undertaking before Mr Justice Anthony Barr not to intimidate, harass, assault or interfere with workers installing meters.

The judge said he was continuing the orders against anyone else who had knowledge of the court orders or had been served notice of them.

A solicitor for the nine, Con Pendred, said yesterday his clients denied any allegation they had been involved in violence or intimidation against workers. He said the injunctions were unnecessary as anyone who was engaged in such activity was guilty of criminal offences and could be arrested by the Garda.

Mr Pendred said his clients were prepared to give an undertaking not to engage in the alleged activities until the dispute was fully dealt with by the High Court.

Jim O’Callaghan, for GMC Sierra Ltd, said the company was happy to accept the undertakings, which were in the same terms as the injunction.
