Investigations launched into Co Cork farm death

Man (28) died after shed roof collapsed at a family farm near Macroom on Wednesday

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have begun separate investigations following the death of a 28-year-old man in an incident on a farm near Macroom, Co Cork, on Wednesday afternoon.

The man was on a shed roof making a video of silage-cutting at his family farm at Inchisine when the roof collapsed beneath him at about 3pm.

The man fell on to a concrete floor.

Family members raised the alarm and emergency services arrived at the farm.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.

Postmortem

The man’s remains have since been removed to Cork University Hospital, where a postmortem examination is due to be carried out on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

Gardaí in Macroom have begun an investigation and will prepare a file for an inquest at the Coroner’s Court .

The HSA were notified and have begun a separate investigation.
