Local reports say residents in neighbouring apartments contacted the police after seeing a bloodied knife outside the man’s apartment.

The building is located on Neyzen Tevfik street, a seaside avenue that runs the length of the water-front in the centre of the town.

The man’s body was taken to a forensic medical facility in Mugla, a town 110 kms north of Bodrum and a police investigation is underway.

Bodrum in southwest Turkey is a popular resort town among Irish and European sunseekers.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to the family of an Irish man who has died in Turkey.
