A young Irish woman has has died after falling from a balcony in Tenerife in the Canary Islands.

The woman, understood to be aged 21, was from Cork city.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is offering consular assistance to her family.

The woman, who cannot be named pending the notification of her family members, was a former pupil of Mayfield Community School in the city.

Her Facebook page was flooded with messages as word filtered through about her death.

One friend said she was shocked by the sudden passing of a young woman who was so vibrant and full of life.

Another friend spoke of how caring she was, saying “people need to know how much of a loving kind hearted person you were”.

Meanwhile, a 26 year old man from East Cork has died after his car was involved in a single vehicle road traffic incident in Australia.

It is understood the man, who was from Little Island, was on his way to work on Wednesday morning when the crash occurred.
