A Kildare man has died in Melbourne this morning after sustaining head injuries last weekend.

Eoin Murray (30) was found with head injuries in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy early on Saturday morning. He was from Leixlip, Co Kildare.

Victoria Police believe he got out of a taxi between 5.30am and 5.50am. He was discovered by a passerby on Nicholson Street at about 6am and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Family members travelled from Ireland to be with him at the hospital.

Police say Mr Murray was leaning on a car after a night out with friends when he got into an argument with another man.

It is not yet known whether Mr Murray fell or was pushed before hitting his head on a gutter and being injured.

Though the police interviewed the man who argued with Mr Murray, no charges have been laid.

Mr Murray had lived in Australia for several years and became an Australian citizen in March.

He previously worked at Dublin radio station 98FM and is a graduate of the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the man’s family. Police are seeking assistance from the public.
