Two people have died in road traffic incidents in Cork and Clare.

A man (19) was killed when the car he was driving crashed on a road at Knockleigh, Belgooly, Co Cork.

Shortly after midnight, gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene where the man was pronounced dead a short time later. It is understood he was the sole occupant of the car.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

In Co Clare, a woman in her 30s was fatally injured when the car in which she was travelling as a passenger crashed a kilometre outside Ennistymon on the Lahinch road at about 6.40pm on Saturday. The car is believed to have struck a tree and overturned.

A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and taken to Ennis Garda station.

National Ambulance Service paramedics and gardaí attended scene along with crews from Ennis fire brigade. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the single-vehicle incident or anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them if they saw anything.
