A young man has been killed and a woman seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Co Wexford.

The man, aged in his early 20s, was the driver and sole occupant of the first vehicle and was killed in the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle, a woman in her mid-50s, was seriously injured and has been taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin, where her current condition is described as critical.

The collision took place at about 5.20pm on Sunday at Ballintore, Ferns, Co Wexford.

The body of the young man has been removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination will later take place.

The road where the crash occurred is currently closed, with local traffic diversions set up.

An Garda Síochána forensic collision investigators are to examine the scene on Monday, and gardaí have appealed to any witnesses of the collision to contact investigating gardaí.
