A man in his 60s has died in a house fire in Co Offaly that broke out on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services responded to a call about a fire in a house in Screggan, Co Offaly.

While the fire was extinguished by local fire brigade units, a man in his early 60s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí in Tullamore are investigating the fatal fire, and the Garda Technical Bureau is to conduct an examination of the scene, to try and identify the cause of the fire.

The man’s body remains at the scene and the State Pathologist has been notified of the death.

A Garda spokesman confirmed no one else was injured in the fire.
