Two people have been killed in a car crash outside Cork city this morning while a man in his 40s died after being struck by a car in Swords, Co Dublin.

A man has been arrested in connection with a Dublin hit and run incident in which another man died.

A male pedestrian in his 40s died shortly after he was struck by a car on North St in Swords, Co Dublin, early this morning.

The vehicle involved in the incident failed to remain at the scene. The deceased was removed to Connolly Hospital for a post mortem examination.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being held at Swords Garda station.

Elsewhere, two people were killed in a road crash in Cork.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s died near Cork city this morning when their car left the road at Ballinahina in White’s Cross at about 12.30am.

The bodies have been taken to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem.
