The emergency services, including a local doctor, rushed to the scene and tried to revive Mr McGill but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

A Garda spokesman confirmed they were called the scene of an incident at the bar but would make no further comment.

It is understood that Mr McGill did suffer from underlying health problems.

Local county councillor Liam Doherty said Mr McGill was a very popular local man and the entire village was shocked and saddened by his death.

“Fergus would have had some underlying health issues but he did complain that he had ben stung by a wasp just minutes before he collapsed. It’s very sad. He was a lovely man and nobody had a bad word about him. The entire village is in shock at what happened.”
