Man dies after half-marathon collapse

A man in his forties has died after collapsing while taking part in a half marathon in Dublin’s Phoenix Park today.

The runner collapsed at the 11-mile mark of the race near the Islandbridge entrance to the park shortly after 11am.

Fellow participants came to his aid before a St John’s Ambulance medical crew transferred him to hospital.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The organisers of the Airtricity Dublin Race Series issued a statement this afternoon expressing its condolences to the friends and family of the dead man and asking that their privacy be respected.
