Man held under Mental Health Act after Leinster House incident

Bystanders including TD, ushers and garda came to man’s assistance

A man involved in an incident outside Leinster House today has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A man involved in an incident outside Leinster House on Monday has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The incident occurred shortly after 3pm.

Several bystanders including the Independent TD Finian McGrath, ushers and a garda on duty at Leinster House quickly came to the man’s assistance.

A witness to the incident said the man, who was in a very distressed state, told those who came to his aid that he had been a victim of child abuse and rape.

A garda squad car arrived and the man was taken from the scene.

He was brought to hospital however it is understood he did not sustain any serious injuries in the incident.
