Man in 40s killed in Limerick after car collides with van

Father and daughter treated in hospital follopwing crash but injuries not serious

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the fatal collision which occurred when the car which was being driven on the wrong side of the road crashed into a van with a father and daughter inside.

A man in his 40s has been killed in a road accident in Limerick city.

The victim died after the car he was travelling in collided with a van shortly after 7.30pm on Tuesday night on Hyde Road.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the fatal collision which occurred when the car which was being driven on the wrong side of the road crashed into a van with a father and daughter inside.

It is understood there was a second male also travelling in the car which collided with the van.

The victim who is in his 40s, is understood to have been the passenger. The other male suffered injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

It is understood that the father and daughter were treated at the scene but their injuries are believed to be serious.

The scene was attended by emergency services and a large Garda presence remains at the scene with the road closed in both directions.
