A man in his 50s was killed in Co Monaghan on Sunday when the car he was driving left the road and hit a wooden fence.

The incident happened at Drumcrew, Castleblayney at about 4pm.

A female passenger in the same car was uninjured, and no other vehicles were involved.

The stretch of road where the incident occurred was closed on Sunday night pending an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.
