A 21-year-old man has been remanded on bail after he was charged in connection with a €90,000 drugs seizure in Midleton, Co Cork.

Dylan O'Riordan of Beechwood Court in Midleton was charged with two offences relating to the seizure when he was brought before Mallow District Court on Tuesday.

He was charged with possession of cannabis at Beechwood Court on August 12th, contrary to section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977. He was also charged with possession of cannabis herb for sale or supply at the same location, contrary to section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.

Det Dave O’Shea of Midleton Garda station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and said the defendant made no reply to either charge when they were put to him after caution.

Sgt Linda O’Leary said that gardaí had no objection to bail once certain conditions were met. Gardaí were seeking that Mr O’Riordan would sign on daily between 9am and 9pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Midleton Garda station and that he reside at his home and refrain from taking any intoxicants.

Defence solicitor Joe Cudiggan said his client was happy to abide by the terms with the proviso the signing-on conditions be relaxed if he obtained a place in a residential drug-treatment centre.

His client would be going forward to Cork Circuit Criminal Court on a signed plea of guilty to all charges, he added.

Judge Joanne Carroll remanded the defendant on bail to appear at Midleton District Court again on September 23rd.

Free legal aid was granted.
