The man whose body was found in a car submerged in a canal in Co Kildare this morning is believed to have been in his late 20s.

The body of a man has been recovered after a car was discovered submerged in a canal near the village of Kilmeage in Co Kidare.

The car was found at Newpark, Kilmeage around 10am this morning by a member of the public. When the car was removed from the canal the body of a man in his late 20s was discovered.

The man’s body has been removed to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital and the coroner’s office has been notified.

Gardaí from Naas are investigating the incident which occurred at some stage overnight.
